MEASURED DRAWING - The Malay House

History of Architecture
Diploma Architecture 08- back in May 2001

1.1 INTRODUCTION TO STUDY

The architecture of traditional Malay house is of unique and distinct quality. It has its own distinct history, which should not be taken for granted. This unique architectural heritage should be restored and appreciated. This is of great necessity one civilized nation can only be acknowledge via the characteristics exhibited through one’s own unique style of architecture.

The Malaysian architectural heritage is deemed as one of the unique collection of robust architecture, which do not exist for the sake of existence but also function as a projection of the diversified yet unified the Malaysian culture.

Realizing the importance for these architectural heritage to live the ‘north life’ of today’s machine age built environment, there fore some forms of continuous yet effective measures need to be taken. One of the initiatives taken by Universiti Teknologi Mara ( UiTM ) is
to develop a study termed as Measured Drawing as a portion that make up the course
History of Architecture.


1.1 STUDY GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
  • To document the details of selected of the study subject via proper field study methodology.

  • To study the selected building in relation to its cultural, social and physical context.

  • To produced detailed measured drawings of selected subject via analysis of information and other related study for restoration purposes.

  • To adapt the proper measuring technique and to obtain the level best accuracy.

  • To established the pattern of relationship between man, natural environment and man-made environment.

The group members are grateful to the following for their contribution during the preparation of this Measured Drawings Project which was held in Kota Kuala Muda, Kedah.
